VACANCIES
The establishment of an eligibility list for current and future vacancies in the Public Safety Communications Division of the Police Department.
THE POSITION
This is specialized work in receiving and dispatching messages in the
Police-Fire Communication Center. Work involves responsibility for
operating computer aided communications equipment and performing related
clerical tasks. Work requires fast, efficient and accurate receiving,
dispatching and processing of communications from and to personnel and fire
stations or police vehicles. Calls and messages include emergency requests

REQUIREMENTS
Six months recent experience (within the last three years) in police/fire/military emergency vehicle dispatching and high school graduate or equivalent. Employees hired into these positions are subject to agency shop requirements. Availability and typing skills must be indicated on your application.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to pass an orally adminstered typing test at 35 words per minute. Must be able to pass an intensive police background investigation. Must be able to sit for long periods in a confined area and wear a radio headset. Must be able to work rotating shifts (days, swings and graves), weekends, holidays and overtime as required. Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of employment, a POST Basic Dispatcher Certificate or equivalent certificate.
EXAMINATION
Qualified applicants may be invited to compete in an oral examination.
