Why doesn't the Police Department do anything about prostitution? Go to the Top of this page.

The Riverside Police Department Vice Unit is tasked with enforcement of prostitution laws. Members of the unit make multiple prostitution arrests on a weekly basis. While prostitution occurs around the clock, Vice detectives are limited in their hours of deployment. Periodically, Vice conducts "sting" operations with other units, such as the POP Team, and UNET. Programs target both the supply side and the consumers, concentrating on areas of highest identified prostitution activity.

In addition to enforcing prostitution laws, Vice detectives are also responsible for enforcement relating to lewd conduct in public places, display and distribution of harmful matter, alcohol laws, and illegal gambling. They also administer regulatory and enforcement requirements of the Riverside Municipal Code relating to Bingo, Adult Entertainment, Massage, and Fortunetelling.
